What to Expect in Our First Session Together

Hi there! I’m so glad you’re considering starting your counselling journey with me. Here’s a bit about what you can expect in our first session together:
We’ll begin by getting to know each other. I’ll explain how counselling works and what our sessions might look like. I’ll also share a bit about myself and my approach so we can start building that all-important connection from day one.

We’ll talk about confidentiality, and I’ll make sure you understand how I handle your information. I’ll also cover those rare situations where I may need to share something, like if someone’s safety is at risk. My goal is for you to feel safe and secure when you open up.

Our session will be a relaxed, open conversation where I’ll ask some questions to get a clearer picture of your life, your experiences, and what’s brought you to counselling. This might involve exploring your past, what’s going on for you right now, and the challenges you’re facing.

Together, we’ll set some goals for your journey. These goals will help guide our sessions and give us something to work towards. It’s a great way to track your progress over time.

One of the most important parts of our work together is building a trusting relationship. I’ll create a space where you can share your thoughts and feelings freely, knowing there’s no judgment here—just support and understanding.

By the end of our first session, we’ll put together a plan that’s tailored to you. This plan will outline how often we’ll meet, what we’ll focus on, and the strategies I’ll use to help you along the way.
